FAQs

I am frequently asked " What kinds of work do you do?  "

Looking over the Galleries is the best way to show people the kinds of things
that I can do, although I can't possibly upload all the pictures or projects I
have done.  There are thousands of pictures of projects now.

Smaller projects are my forte, where 1 or 2 men can do the job, with the
addition of licensed electrical and plumbing friends.   Great results can happen
quickly.

Who is "Habidex" ?

Habidex is run by Eric Elford, 50yrs old, Married to Sue, with 2 awesome kids.  Since he was a teenager, Eric found he had a knack at hammering things, mostly wood.  Getting into the thick of things with his Dad, he found he enjoyed working on little and big projects alike, and for many years did odd jobs and smaller reno projects for friends and family.    He spent 25yrs running his own computer service and consulting firm before doing a mid-life change into renovations full time.

  • Eric is the kind of guy that decided he had to buy a
chain-saw while still living in an apartment at about 21yrs old.  "It was too
good a deal to pass up", "besides, I knew I'd get around to using it one day."
Much to his girlfriends' (now wife) great shagrin.
  • Always looking for an excuse to help a friend with their
projects, Eric has had a knack of digging into a project and getting the job
done despite  adversity, often gleaning great insight from tradesmen, to the
point of being completely able to take over a project.
  • Eric gained alot of insight and know-how by doing
extreme home makeovers, and transitioning many projects from conception to completion.
  • Years later, and now armed with a good crew of subtrades and experience, Eric finds himself enjoying the small to mid-sized projects that
large crews just don't want or have time for, but where Eric and his select team can do a great job for homeowners.
  • All of the projects represented in the galleries are projects that Eric has had a hand in, or a whole General Contracting project
    from beginning to end.

Building Permits will be required for substantial
projects
!  Please allow for additional time to have inspectors
verify the work, for the city to check and approve and engineer and recheck and
recheck and recheck and recheck the plans.   They are busy, and there is only so
many of them for all the projects on the go, so it will take more time to do
your project than you can possibly imagine.
But it will happen.
Building inspections are necessary to ensure projects get done right, if at
all.  It's important to realize they are doing their jobs to safeguard your
lives and your living spaces.  Having a garage vent vehicle emmissions into your
bedroom isn't the best idea for example.  Cutting out structure and compromising
your house falling in isn't good either.  We're not going to do something to
knowingly put you or your home in jeapardy.
Watching all these 1/2hr handyman shows are fun, and they show some
interesting examples, but that doesn't qualify someone to do their own major
renovations.  Let a professional help.
